The original Vineyard was 10 acres of land purchased in 1977. Today, there are 33 acres under vines crushing between 100 and 200 tonnes of grapes each year, both for our own use and others who we make wine for. We produce approximately 10,000 cases of wine annually for our use.
Our Chardonnay vines were planted from Chardonnay cuttings (pruned) from Craigmoor Winery. These are the oldest chardonnay rootstock in Australia. The original grape varietals included Trebbiano, Muscat, Chardonnay and Shiraz.
Later varietals such as Mueller Thurgau, Cabernet Sauvignon, Gordo Blanco, Verdelho, Frontinac, Petit Muscat and Durif were planted.
Today there are six grape varietals grown including Muller Thurgau, Verdelho, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Durif. In 2008 we planted Sangiovese and Viogner.
Our fortified range is renowned. Pipeclay Tawny Port came first and combined the flavours of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. Pipeclay Vermouth was added and infused the exotic flavours of cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, ginger, turmeric, sweet wood and orange peel distilled at the van Gent distillery in Holland.
It was in 1990 that Mudgee White Port was added. Pieter’s wife, Sheila recommended making White Port after tasting it in the Douro Valley in Portugal. Today, there is a cult following for this product both in Australia and overseas making it enormously popular.
We are strong advocates for sustainable farming and use no insecticides, herbicides, weedicides or synthetic fertilisers and have been "Australian Certified Organic " Processor 10930P in accordance with the Australian Organic Standard 2006 and in conformity with the Australian National Standard for Organic and Biodynamic Produce.
We believe every person and business can make a difference and through a vigorous recycling program turn waste into re-useable resources.
We regard nature as precious and have restoration programs in place for native wetlands and billabongs on our property.
