Dear friend of Pieter van Gent,

September has rolled around again meaning that spring has officially started and that the annual Mudgee Wine and Food festival is on. This year the festival is running now (9 – 25 September) so if you are visiting, call by and see us

What’s been going on at PVG over the last few months?

Ben has been flat out in the vineyard pruning and slashing in preparation for the up coming vintage. Melinda is now back from her European vacation, which took in the last stage of the Tour de France on the Avenue des Champs-Élysées, and is now planning the next trip while running the cellar door. Dan’s been making the most of the warm weather by training for his next Ironman event.

Phil van GentAnd then we get to me, in an attempt to balance my huge indulgences in wine, cheese and good food I have once again been undertaking sporting adventures around the country.

So far I've taken part in the 800km Gibb River Rd MTB Challenge (WA), the Geo Quest Adventure Race Numbucca Heads, Kalamunda 50km/50% Mountain Bike Challenge, WA and the Two Big Feet, (100km), which is part of the Back Yamma Bigfoot mountain bike race in Parkes, NSW.

On the wine side of things we planted a new red variety Tannat late last year. Tannat, is a full bodied chewy red wine, high in polyphenols which are supposed to be good for keeping the heart healthy. Keep an eye out for this wine over the coming years as the vines start to mature and produce bigger crops. For those who are fans of our sparkling Shiraz, the latest release is currently been worked on and should have been ready yesterday – if only Phil would stop doing those crazy sporting events and do some more wine making! - ed

The Pipeclay Tawny Port will soon also be available in a souvenir ceramic bottle to match the White Port.
